TNT Boys, accept the change in their voices
MAYNILA — Regine Velasquez shared her joy for TNT Boys Kiefer Sanchez, Mackie Empuerto and Francis Concepcion when they recalled her advice about the change in their voices due to puberty.
On “Magandang Buhay” this Friday, Velasquez talked about the last time they were together for a performance in Rome, Italy.
“When we were in Rome, they were having such a hard time. Because their voices had changed and yet they are singing the same songs, in the same key as when they were kids. So when I saw them and it was just the three of them, it felt like they were losing money. I felt sorry for them. So I went to them and I talked to them,” said Velasquez.
“I told them that you need to accept what your sound will be. Because it’s hard to think about it, you’re still there when you were a kid but what you hear is different. I can say that because that happened to me. Although in my case, after I gave birth. Sometimes I come home after a gig, I cry to my husband and was telling him maybe it’s time for me to stop. There’s that, because you know your sound. So I felt the need to let these boys know that it’s okay. It will definitely change, your voice will change and it will keep on changing. Then I saw them earlier, I was so happy to see them. The first thing Francis said to me, you know what? ‘We’ve accepted Miss Reg.’ I was happy,” Velasquez added. When Velasquez asked how they received their voices, Concepcion replied: “When I accepted it, I thought that it can’t always be like that because I’m a man too, my voice will really change. So I have to get used to the fact that my voice is like this and it’s still growing. I accepted it and I’m happy with the new voice.”
For Empuerto, the process of changing his voice was difficult.
“Because I’m always disappointed every time I sing, because the three of us were looking forward to the high ones, and now that they hear us, we’ve gone down. I used that to find genres and songs that are good for me, for us. So we accepted it completely, because the outcome is good,” said Empuerto.
Sanchez admitted that until now he is still in the process of accepting his new voice.
“It’s hard. Because every time I record, I feel like I’m always out of tune and that I’m not the same as before puberty and I feel like I’m not continuing my record because it’s so different, I get discouraged with myself. (The acceptance) is still ongoing. I’m training my voice now, I’m practicing it and the rest is that I’ve found my genre. I’m slowly accepting my new voice,” said Sanchez.
The group’s career began when they participated in “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”
After that, they appeared in international programs one after another, such as “Little Big Shots.”
