Angel regrets not being able to see her father: Half of the Philippines knows my face but my father doesn’t
Angel Locsin’s greatest wish is to see her father, Mr. Angel Colmenares, so that he can see her achievements when she was at the peak of her success.

But the 95-year-old father lost his sight when the actress was still young and just starting to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

Her sad story with Ogie Diaz on his YouTube channel was uploaded on Wednesday.

“That’s what I regret my whole life, especially when I was at my peak, almost every part of EDSA had a billboard one after another.

“Maybe half of the Philippines knows my face. But my father doesn’t know my face,” the actress said tearfully.

“That’s what you regret, too much?” Ogie replied.

Angel couldn’t hold back her tears, “Yes, we were my youngest siblings too. Because he couldn’t see when I was a teenager.

“As long as he has a TV even though he can’t see. When there are teleseryes, I watch it. When there’s news about me on the radio, he listens. Sometimes he knows more about what’s going on than I do, of course when we’re busy, we don’t listen to it, right?

“He (his daddy) is still updated, he makes a way for you to know so that you can still be involved in my life,” Angel said. Here, Angel told the story of why her beloved father lost his sight.

“He had a retinal detachment, like in the first year of high school or elementary school and we only found out when he got laser surgery. He had been blind in one eye for a long time, but he didn’t tell us.

“When we asked why he didn’t tell us, he just said, ‘there’s no need to tell.’

“He didn’t try to find sympathy or excuses, nothing, he just said ‘I’m just functioning.’

“So, he got laser after three years, he had a retinal detachment, he couldn’t do it anymore. Then at that time there were treatments available but I couldn’t do it at that time,” he laughed to hold back tears.

What are the things Angel and his father remember about each other?

“Many, I used to be a swimmer. Daddy was the only parent who stood until our training was over at the edge of the pool, the others (parents) just sat there, he really kept an eye on me.

“So, he knew when I was cheating on my laps. He knew when I was being lazy that day. The time he spent just with me, he really kept an eye on me.

“When I was a kid, I used to say (it was very tight, it seemed like that back then, but now you realize that we don’t have that much time.

“The time that people give us, they probably want to do more things that they don’t because they want to be with you, they’re really focused on you,” Mrs. Neil Arce recalled.

And Angel also admitted that her dad handles her finances because she’s good at Math and all her siblings are the ones they ask their dad for.

Currently, Angel’s sister Ela Colmenares and her children and other siblings are with their dad at the house the actress bought in Quezon City, but not a day goes by without the father and son talking or checking in on each other.
