Ice Seguerra cites plan to have a child with wife Liza Diño as one of the reasons for leaving government post: “It takes money to do that. So if I stay in government, we won’t be able to do that.”
There are many reasons why former National Youth Commission chairperson Ice Seguerra left the government.
Ice Seguerra and Liza Diño
But during the press conference held for his and Nyoy Volante’s pre-Valentine concert yesterday, January 29, he gave two big reasons–first, he doesn’t want politics anymore; second, he wants to focus on his and his wife Liza Diño’s plan to have a child.
For the first reason, the 35-year-old singer said that in his almost two years as NYC chair, he realized, “I’m not into government.
Ice explained, “I like the public service part. But, of course, when you say the government, it goes both way, e–public service and the politics. So the politics part, I do not like.”
He also said that the intrigue in government is more intense than showbiz, which he grew up in.
Ice stated, “The intrigue in politics is definitely worse because it concerns national interest.
“I mean, I don’t underestimate showbiz, but if we compare just the degree.
“This [showbiz], of course, when you’re intrigued… Right, I was intrigued that I was a thief, it’s funny to think about it but it’s also frustrating because…
“Maybe because I’ve been in this job for so long, more than 30 years in the industry already, if there’s one thing that I’m proud of, it’s my name.
“My name, I don’t come from a family of artists, I don’t come from a famous family.
“But I’m still here because I make sure that every job I do, I give my 100 percent or more.
“It’s insulting to hear my name in all these politics and you hear things about you which are not true.”
That’s why in the end, Ice realized, “It’s not my game. Maybe I needed to know that first hand.
“Because, I’m the type of person who doesn’t like what ifs, eh. I like what I’m trying, ‘then when I’m there I’m like, ‘Ah, this isn’t for me.’
“Maybe, it’s easier for me to accept it and just move on because I’ve been through it.”
For his second reason, Ice said that he also lost time for his family when he took office as NYC chair.
He said, “I also miss my wife. Of course, she’s also in the government, there are times… You know, we’re always together.
“’Then, suddenly when we went in, wooh, suddenly we didn’t see each other anymore.
“’Then, like after his event or after our work, we were both tired.
“So, when we got home, we went to sleep. I don’t want that, I don’t want to sacrifice our relationship.
“Of course, we love our country, but maybe someone has to give way because as much as I love my country, I love my relationship with my wife. I do not want to sacrifice that.
“I think it’s enough that someone is serving the government and it’s only right that I’m back with what I’m doing and taking care of my family as well.”
Ice also admitted that his salary as NYC chair will not be enough to make his and Liza’s plan to have children through in vitro fertilization a reality.
He said, “I’m not getting any younger, my husband and I’ve been dreaming of having another kid since we got married.
“Of course, we know that we cannot conceive normally.
“It takes money to do that. So if I stay in government, we won’t be able to do that.”
Ice recently underwent what is called “egg harvesting.”
Liza Diño is also reportedly in love with a potential sperm donor.
Following this is the fertilized embryo transfer, where Liza will impregnate Ice’s child.
Because of the many processes to be done, Ice couldn’t help but be asked if they would be expensive.
Ice immediately answered, “Yes!”
According to the Kato Repro Biotech Center, which performs in vitro fertilization here in the country, a Drug Free (Natural Cycle) IVF Cycle costs PhP 200,000. This IVF package includes egg retrieval/harvesting, IVF with or without ICSI, embryo culture, and embryo transfer.
In addition, there will be costs for the process of obtaining a sperm donor, which reaches approximately $1000, according to the website of a sperm bank in California.
Finally, Ice was asked if the process they went through was worth millions?
“Right now, it’s not there yet,” Ice replied with a smile.
